Most of the lower teams performed well this week, not the Blues though.

It was one of the better rounds of footy with two high-quality games – the Giants against the Tigers and the contest between the Kangaroos and the Swans.

Top Five Coaches of Round 17

1- Chris Fagan (Lions)
2- Adam Simpson (Eagles)
3- Leon Cameron (Giants)
4- John Longmire (Swans)
5- Brad Scott (Kangaroos)

Round 17 key points

Crows vs Cats: Crows outclass Cats
The news that Rory Sloane had resigned with the Crows clearly helped their cause on Friday night.

The Cats relied on too few; the likes of Patrick Dangerfield and Tom Hawkins carried the team and in the end the Crows marched to a well deserved victory.

The win was soured by a suspension to captain Taylor Walker.

Saints vs Blues: Blues capitulate, Saints surge
It was difficult to measure if the Saints comprehensive victory was due to their brilliance or the lacklustre effort shown by the Blues.

The Saints are improving at the very least and the Blues’ best player in Patrick Cripps is a superstar and a shining light for them, that’s one thing for certain.

Hawks vs Lions: Once bitten, twice shy!
The Lions were victorious against the Lions for the second time this season. Luke Hodge and Chris Fagan clearly have inside knowledge of the Hawks game plan!

The future looks bright for the Lions. The Hawks Tom Mitchell was once again prolific, but the Hawks quest to feature in September is now in jeopardy.

Demons vs Bulldogs: Demons cruise to comfortable victory over injury ravaged Dogs outfit
For the second week in a row the Bulldogs were competitive in the first half. Once again they were obliterated in the second half. The Demons had their second successive win by over eight goals.

The Demons are back in calculations following a close loss to the Saints in Round fifteen, while the Bulldogs depth had been tested as they have been depleted due to a lengthy injury list.

Suns vs Bombers: Suns fade away
Following a good start to the game the Suns were underwhelming. The win means that the Bombers still remain a mathematical chance of making the finals and featuring in September.

Giants vs Tigers: This was one of the games of the season
Early on, it appeared as if the Giants would march to a comfortable victory, however, the Tigers managed to fight their way back into the game. This game turned out to be a classic close contest.

Magpies vs Eagles: Eagles prevail on the hallowed turf
Despite leading three goals to nothing the Magpies didn’t put in their best performance; the Magpies ended up losing the contest by thirty-five points.

Kangaroos vs Swans: This game was a good spectacle
This was one of the highest quality games that I have seen this season. It was a close contest and a good game to watch for the neutral.

Swans team lifter: Ben Ronke

Dockers vs Power: The Dockers have a good list
Irrespective of being outside the top eight, the Dockers recruiting and list management has been good. They managed to win without captain Nat Fyfe.
