Australia’s chances of wrestling the Bledisloe Cup out of New Zealand’s hands have been dealt a cruel blow, with news that star centre Tevita Kuridrani miss roughly 12 weeks with a torn pectoral muscle.

The injury further compounds the Wallabies’ midfield woes, Samu Kerevi already sidelined for a similar period with a torn bicep.

With two of the first choice centres out of the side, it’ll likely be up to Reece Hodge, Curtis Rona or Billy Meakes to stem the tide against the might of the All Blacks line-up.

Rona has played only three Tests but has been in good form for the Waratahs and has established combinations with Wallabies backline regulars Bernard Foley, Kurtley Beale and Israel Folau.

If Hodge is chosen for the role, it may mean Cheika will be forced to draft in more cover for five-eighth Foley in his wider training squad.

Australia open their Rugby Championship campaign against New Zealand on August 18 in Sydney, the first of three Bledisloe Cup Tests.

Kuridrani picked up the injury in the Brumbies win over the Waratahs last weekend and will require surgery to remedy the issue.
