It was the upset of the season, maybe the decade, when the Gold Coast Suns beat the Sydney Swans by 24-points at the SCG last Saturday.

After a dominant first quarter by the Swans, the siren to start the second quarter woke Gold Coast like an alarm clock and they played some of the best footy we’ve seen from them this year.

Ex-Sydney assistant coach Stuart Dew was the mastermind, but his players delivered in an inspiring effort to salvage the last few weeks of the season and make it worthwhile.

Carlton experienced yet another convincing defeat on Sunday, this time to the hands of Hawthorn by 12 goals.

At the first break Carlton had not scored, a goal and two behinds in the second term meant they went in to half time with just eight points.

To make matters worse, Zach Fisher limped off with what scans have revealed to be a small break in his left fibula and Liam Jones suffered a medial ligament strain to his right knee.

In team news for the Suns, Charlie Ballard (knee), Brayden Crossley (cheekbone) and Callum Ah Chee (illness) will miss the clash with the Blues.

Brayden Fiorini, David Swallow and Jack Bowes have been named in their places; Fiorini and Swallow will give Gold Coast’s midfield a boost, while Bowes will cover the absence of Ah Chee who moved into the defensive line last week.

Carlton have made five changes: Zach Fisher (leg) and Liam Jones (knee) will miss the remainder of the season with their injuries, and Levi Casboult, Matt Shaw and Nick Graham have been omitted.

Dale Thomas returns from injury and Jed Lamb suspension, while Darcy Lang, Sam Rowe and Ciaran Byrne have all been included in the side.

Matthew Kreuzer won’t return in this clash, with a very cautious approach being taken regarding his elevated heart rate against the Saints in round 17.

Former Bulldog and inaugural Suns player Jarrod Harbrow will celebrate 150 club games on Saturday night and be honoured with Life Membership.

Prediction
What had the potential to be a wooden spoon battle is no longer, as the Suns’ surprise victory last week means they sit in 17th place, three wins above Carlton and the number one draft pick.

Stuart Dew will finally get his first home win as coach and the Suns will celebrate back-to-back victories.

Gold Coast Suns by 19 points.
