The last three Saturday games saw Greater Western Sydney eventually shake off the Saints and keep their possible top-four finish alive, the Blues break through for their second win and Melbourne return to some of their early season form, and in doing so put paid to any chance Adelaide had of making the finals.

For Greater Western Sydney, Harrison Himmelberg had his most lucrative game of his 34 for the club, bagging four goals. Other multiple goal scorers for the club were Toby Greene (2) – the club’s second highest goal scorer – Zac Langdon (2) and Rory Lobb (2).

Brent Daniels, playing his fourth game for the club, scored two goals to break his duck while Brett Deledio scored one.

St Kilda had only five goal scorers, three of which were top 100 and these three all achieved movement up the all-time goal kicking list for the Saints. The most notable of these was Jake Gresham, whose two goals took him up the top 100 list past Vic Cumberland, Jason Gram and Ron Fisher. He is now level with Travis Payze.

Tim Membrey, due to the absence of Josh Bruce through injury, is the leading current all-time goalkicker at the Saints and his two goals took him past Ernie Sellars and Jeff Sarau. Even though he only got one goal, Jack Steven was able to pass Lance Oswald and Brendon Goddard.

Carlton were able to return at long last to the winners’ list and the pleasing statistic for them was that ten different players scored the club’s 11 goals with the only multiple goal scorer being Darcy Lang (2 goals). Marc Murphy kicked one goal, but the other goal kickers represent the future of the club and include Charlie Curnow, Patrick Cripps, Jack Silvangi and Paddy Dow, none of whom are close to joining the list of the top 100 goal scorers.

An interesting note was that Carlton’s first ruck consisted of three players called Matthew.

Although the Gold Coast Suns only kicked five goals, they also had a multiple-goal scorer in Matthew Wright.

Adelaide’s desperate last quarter in wet conditions at Adelaide was all in vain, as the Demons ran out winners by 13 points. Eddie Betts and Hugh Greenwood were the only multiple goal kickers for Adelaide with two goals each.

Although he showed a bit more spark last night, Eddie is still below his best. His two goals took him above Jarryd Roughead in their battle for supremacy on the AFL goal kicking top 100 list, but Jarryd is due to play on Sunday as is Josh Kennedy from the West Coast Eagles, who sits a further two goals back.

Adelaide’s other major goal kicker ‘Tex’ Walker is also below form and both his chances of making the AFL top 100 goal kickers and playing in finals this year are disappearing fast unless he can improve on his one goal output in the remaining four games.

For Melbourne, Tom McDonald continued his climb up the Demons’ goal kicking list and Jesse Hogan and Jeff Garlett chimed in with one goal each.
