Nine races will be run and won at Moonee Valley on Saturday, while at Morphettville Parks it looks a rather tricky afternoon for punters.

Here are my five plays across the two meetings.

Bet 1: Win – Moonee Valley Race 5, number five: Streets Of Avalon
Gee he looks the winner. Shane Nicholls has this bloke going quite well, but he just hasn’t been able to crack it for a win. He ran over the mile a fortnight back at Flemington and tried hard, but Al Passem just had it too good in front and kicked too well. There’s more tempo here and a fair bit back in depth. He should start shorter.

Bet 2: Each-way – Moonee Valley Race 6, number four: Streetcar To Stars
He had his first run for Team Williams, his first run since August 2014, over 2400 metres at Sandown, where he was near the speed throughout and fought on quite well in defeat behind Pioneertown. He should come right on from that – just hopefully has no second-up flat run. The market will tell you how well he is going.

Bet 3: Win – Moonee Valley Race 8, number three: Trap For Fools
He’s not a horse who will win by panels, but I think he has this lot covered. He ran over 2000 metres at Flemington a fortnight back, where he tried hard but was no match for the brilliance of stablemate Sixties Groove. There’s no horse of that class here, hard fit now – he looks the winner. Three of four bar plates are on, though – that’s the only negative.

Bet 4: Win – Morphettville Parks Race 1, number four: See Me Fly
The Ellerton/Zahra team train this bloke, who hasn’t raced since 9 June over 1400 metres at Flemington when finishing midfield behind the in-form Barthelona. He’s a really good fresh horse who finds a winnable race, and the tick-over trial behind Vega Magic was very good. I’m surprised he isn’t the favourite.

Bet 5: Win – Morphettville Parks Race 2, number two: Embecee Lil
She looks one of the best bets of the day right across Australia. Ryan Balfour has this mare going so well at the moment. She had a soft win here two weeks ago over 1250 metres before stepping up to this track and distance, where she was unlucky. I’m not sure she would have beaten Exalted Adam, but she just had no luck when looking for it. There’s not as much depth this time around, so I’m keen. On at $3 – she should start shorter.
