Everest aspirants will strut their stuff on Saturday at Randwick in the Missile Stakes, most notably Kementari, while some in form types will look to continue their purple patch on a nine-race card at Doomben.

Here are my five plays across the two meetings.

Bet 1: Win – Randwick Race 1, number three: Nasaayim
I think she’s the clear overs here. She’s the best horse in the race by a fair bit and has got the brilliance. She hasn’t raced since the Schweppervescene on Tancred Day when down the track behind Irukandji. She’s a good, fresh horse and has been tuned up with a couple of sharp trials. On speed she might well be in the spot to be, and she’ll definitely be there. Odds of $6 to $6.50 are more than acceptable.

Bet 2: Each-way – Randwick Race 4, number six: Dreams Of Paris
This is a very thin race, so I’m surprised there was $15-plus offered for this girl. She just looked a bit flat second up in the Leilani final behind Miss Gunpowder before racing last Wednesday in Canterbury, where she worked home strongly to run second to Gauguin. She’s untried beyond the mile but is racing as if it will suit, and this race has no depth.

Bet 3: Win – Randwick Race 7, number two: Kementari
Chips in for the resumption, bolt in and secure an Everest slot. He’s a high-class four-year-old resuming after a fabulous Autumn prep that included an outstanding Randwick Guineas triumph. He ended the preparation with a luckless 10th in the Doncaster. Two trials leading in have been super – he’s ready to rock and roll. If he is, $2 is fine for a horse who should be $1.60 to $1.70.

Bet 4: Win – Doomben Race 6, number ten: Italia Bella
She looks the first of two good things at Doomben. She’s shown glimpses of black-type ability in the past, but a combo of poor runs and rides along with strange placement have hampered her career. I loved the way she put them away over the 1350 metres here a fortnight ago. She beat the older horses quite dominantly, including Looks Like Elvis, who won last Saturday to frank the form. I’m keen. Anything over black figures is overs.

Bet 5: Win – Doomben Race 9, number six: Natch
How well is this bloke going? Tony Gollan has this horse absolutely low flying at the moment, winning his past three starts in pretty dominant fashion, including a fortnight back at this track and distance when running sizzling time and doing it comfortably. It’s hard to see him getting beat unless he’s trained off.
