Match preview:

The Collingwood Magpies can go a step closer to locking in a finals berth with a win tonight against the Brisbane Lions, but if they think they can write off the Queenslanders, they’re plain wrong. Join The Roar for live scores and blog from 7:25pm AEST.

Firstly, the Pies. The men in black and white have won two of their last five fixtures, have accumulated 12 wins, and sit in sixth place, with five victories from the nine matches played at home.

History would suggest the Magpies will take a victory with three wins from the last three between these sides, while the Lions have lost seven of their nine away match-ups this year.

Let’s not rule Brisbane out just yet though. Sure, they go into it as heavy underdogs, but they’ve certainly claimed some scalps this year – beating Hawthorn twice, while racking up consecutive wins by over 50 vs Freo and Carlton.

This could be a great contest, given that even if they don’t win, the Lions can give clubs a run for their money, with five losses by less than 10 points; including the Power, Suns, Magpies, Crows and North.

In team news: Jordan de Goey, James Aish and Adam Oxley all come into the Magpies’ side, as Darcy Moore is ruled out with an injury, along with Callum Brown and Josh Daicos being dropped.

Only one change has been made for the Lions: Ryan Bastinac is dropped, and Tom Cutler comes in to replace him.

History says Collingwood will get the goodies. Current form also probably backs the Magpies. With two rounds left after this one, the Pies are playing for a likely finals berth, whereas the Lions are only looking to salvage some pride, with a slightly better finish on offer.

It’s been a year for upsets however, and while I can’t tip Brisbane, they have more than half a chance.

Prediction: Collingwood by 25
