The Melbourne Demons and the Sydney Swans meet at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in a crucial Round 21 match of the AFL Premiership. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3:20pm (AEST).

After doing their best impersonation of a train wreck over the course of the month prior, the Sydney Swans broke the shackles with an important and nail-biting win against Collingwood last week.

The red and whites were on the brink of falling from any serious contention for the flag in 2018 and the win kept their heads just above the water line.

Round 20 saw Melbourne enjoy a training run against the hapless Suns, on the back of the news that captain, Tom Lynch was indeed intending to return to Melbourne in 2019.

Melbourne were impressive in what they did yet serious questions marks could have been asked of the opposition.

Irrespective, the Demons have moved into the four despite not having beaten a top-eight side for the entire season.

That statistic is a major concern for the Dees with a tough run home that sees the Eagles and Giants waiting in the wings.

It sets up a mouth-watering clash with Melbourne looking to cement a spot in the finals and the Swans needing a win to stay inside the eight.

Buddy Franklin will key for the Swans. He produced a remarkable display last week despite news that his training has been almost non-existent throughout the season.

Max Gawn and Jesse Hogan loom as vital for the Demons if they are to topple the persistent Swans.

Sydney proved once again last week that they should never be eliminated from the conversation when it comes to sides capable of going deep into September action.

Prediction
Despite the solid recent form of the Demons, I have seen this scenario too many times to ignore the qualities of the Swans.

I’m not sure how they will do it but they will continue the poor of Melbourne against quality opposition and claim the four points in a tight contest.

Catch all the action on The Roar live coverage from 3:20pm (AEST).
