Spring is well and truly in the air at Caulfield this Saturday for a ripping program, highlighted by the PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m). Here are my five plays across the meeting.

Bet One: Win – Race One, No. 8, Remember The Name
The gap between herself and Naantali market wise is far too great. Few weeks between runs since racing in the Gold Reef at Caulfield where she got a mile off them from the wide gate, made a long searching run yet still kept finding the line to run third. This looks a more suitable assignment and should take some beating. $5.50 at the moment. Should be near $4.

Bet Two: Win – Race Three, No. 7, A Good Yarn
The Phar Lap of the Geelong Synthetic he is but certainly capable on the turf. Mervyn McKenzie has this horse absolutely low flying at the moment, albeit on Synthetic tracks, but the manner in which he has been winning suggests he is better than just a Synthetic horse. He’ll be up on speed, rolling and giving a great sight.

Bet Three-: Win – Race Four, No. 17, Streets Of Avalon
Tricky contest but this horse looks extremely hard to beat. Shane Nicholls has this bloke in a real purple patch who finally put a win on the board a fortnight back over 1500m at the Valley where Zac Spain had the horse in a beaut spot before moving to the leaders on the turn and putting them away to win impressively.

Back to 1400m no issue and gets really good weight relief. $4.50 or more I could entertain.

Bet Four: Each Way – Race Seven, No. 5, Danon Liberty
Got a slice of the $11 all-in which I think is fine for a potential group one class horse. He trialled up enormous prior to trying to squeeze in the Stradbroke field, where he couldn’t get a start. He’s a potential stallion prospect so look for him to be ready for races like the Rupert Clarke/Toorak, but for mine, he’s got enough brilliance to win this, and the trial on Monday at Coleraine was more than encouraging.

Bet Five: Win – Race Eight, No. 3, Osborne Bulls
If he handles Caulfield first time, he wins because he’s clearly the best horse in the race. James Cummings trains this gelding, who has been a ripper right throughout his career. He hasn’t raced since winning the Luskin Star during the Scone Carnival where he was given a 12/10 from Rachel King. Two trials have been electric leading in, 2/2 fresh and is a 1200m specialist.
