Metro racing in Queensland this Saturday heads to the Gold Coast for a nine-race card, while the course proper at Morphettville will host an eight-race meeting. Here are my five plays across the two programs.

Bet One: Each Way – Gold Coast Race One, No. 5, Sornja
Hoping there are no scratchings so there are three place totes. She looks a good thing to run top three. Chased hard first up when second to stablemate Tabbing before racing over the 1200m at Doomben a fortnight back and he wasn’t quite as sharp but stuck on well behind Prue’s Angel.

Bigger track and up to 1400m looks ideal for this girl and she looks to have more room for improvement.

Bet Two: Win – Gold Coast Race Three, No. 10, Rebel Miss
You can almost put the line through her as a Saturday horse if she can’t beat these. Ran over 1000m at Randwick a fortnight back and finished off well to grab another placing for the prep when third to Soothing. Significant drop in depth and this does look her race. Looks the best bet at the Gold Coast, clearly.

Bet Three: Win – Gold Coast Race Seven, No. 12, Divine Messenger
She’s bursting to win a race and I think she gets a great chance. Tony Gollan has this mare going in near career best form at the moment but now just needs to put a win on the board. Was 1200-1110 last time and finished off well but was no match for a low flying mare in Linlithglow. Back up to 1200m, she should take some beating. Keen.

Bet Four: Win – Morphettville Race Three, No. 1, Kellstorm
The second of two good things across Australia. Darren Weir trains this bloke, who has been gradually building up his fitness and is getting close to peak match fit now. Ran over the 2040m at the Valley two weeks ago and worked home quite well late in the piece behind Morton’s Fork. 3/3 here and this field is weak. Keen and $2.60 is very acceptable.

Bet Five: Win – Morphettville Race Eight, No. 2, Moghul Empire
Why is this horse $6? If Moghul Empire is anywhere near right, he’ll be too good for this lot. Will Clarken trains this gelding, who showed really good promise in his first prep, winning a couple of races in really impressive fashion before not pulling up 100% when down the track behind Vom Costa Glass and was tipped out.

Recent trial was quite good and ability wise, clearly the best horse. If he overcomes the barrier, he’ll be winning.
