Bizarre scenes emerged during the second half of the Cronulla Sharks‘ victory over the North Queensland Cowboys, after prop Andrew Fifita appeared to go into a lengthy rant at his coach Shane Flanagan.
While some might have expected Fifita to have been in a pleasant mood after he produced Cronulla’s third try that was far from the case, with the 29-year-old instead turning around and launching into a stunning tirade reportedly directed at Flanagan.
Fox League reporter Andy Raymond suggested Fifita had been angry after he was ‘hooked’ from the field after he gave away a penalty earlier in the match.
Despite the incident, the Sharks finished strongly with two more tries in the final five minutes to notch up a 12-point win.
With another defeat, Johnathan Thurston’s Cowboys remain locked in last-place alongside the Eels and the Bulldogs.
Fifita has since claimed the tirade was directed at Sharks assistant Jim Dymock who, he says, suggested Fifita hadn’t been running hard enough earlier in the game.
