The Queensland Rugby Union have issued a press release with the news that back rower Caleb Timu has signed on with the Reds for another season.

The news comes barely a week away from the beginning of the 2018 NRC season, where Timu will once again line-up for Queensland Country as they look to defend their title.

After beginning his career in rugby league, Timu hopped across to union midway through 2016 but had his career interrupted by a knee injury.

Once he finally got back on the park, he made his mark with a blistering NRC campaign for Queensland Country that saw him named player of the tournament.

His strong form carried on into Super Rugby, where he was very impressive in his first full season with the Reds. He was rewarded in June with his first two Wallabies caps against Ireland.

In the announcement, the former Brisbane Bronco said he was “feeling at home” at Ballymore, adding he felt it was the best place for him to continue his development.

“I feel like I’ve grown as a player in the last 12 months and I really want to continue to learn and contribute to the team.

“I’m looking forward to the NRC season, it’s a great opportunity to play footy and work on your game. It will be a good chance to continue to learn and improve and hopefully I can carry that form into the next Super Rugby season with the Reds,” he said.

Reds coach Brad Thorn said he was very pleased with Timu’s decision to re-sign, claiming the 24-year-old was yet to reach his full potential.

“It’s great to see Caleb commit for another season. He really came into his own during last year’s NRC and backed it up with a strong season for the Reds.

“He’s a great man who works hard to better himself as a player and a person,” Thorn said.
