Aaron Mooy’s Huddersfield have had a shocking start to the year, but have an opportunity to get their first points when they take on Cardiff City. Join The Roar for live scores of this EPL match from 12am (AEST).

For Huddersfield, the chance of being relegated this season was high before it got underway, and while they have had a tough run of fixtures to start, their results have been less than promising.

A 3-0 loss to Chelsea in the first week was in some ways acceptable, but letting Manchester City run in six last Sunday certainly wasn’t.

Huddersfield’s defence was woeful at the best of times, with the Manchester side simply playing with them for the entirety of the contest, running in goals at regular intervals.

While Huddersfield did get one goal back in that fixture, they were comprehensively outplayed. The only silver lining from their first three hours of the season is the staus of the opposition they were playing – certainly, they won’t be at that end of the table come the end of the season.

Instead, avoiding relegation is the aim and matches at home against sides like Cardiff almost appear to be must win.

In saying that, their opponents in this one have showed some semi-decent form, almost getting past Newcastle last week with the end result a nil-all draw.

While they really should have put one past a ten-man Newcastle, they can take plenty of heart out of the fact they more or less had control of the game throughout, even if their season-opening 2-0 loss to Burnley away from home was a bad one.

That loss showed Cardiff are still a long way from where they would ideally like to be, but if they can play like they did last week and Huddersfield get somewhere back to the level they showed last season in avoiding relegation, this will be a good match.

Prediction
Huddersfield are back at home and will be absolutely desperate. I’m not sure their attack has enough to get past Cardiff enough though, so, providing their defence isn’t quite up to the same standards it was last season as we have seen over the first fortnight, this one should boil out to a scoring draw.

Huddersfield 1 – Cardiff 1.
