If you ask top players should State of Origin return to the AFL then most would say yes.

State of Origin has not been played in the AFL for years but it was incredibly popular among the players – and yes, among the fans as well.

State of Origin should return in some form to Australian rules football. Each AFL player should be given an opportunity to represent their state in an AFL State of Origin series. As the game continues to grow across Australia, more and more players come from outside Victoria – making it even more competitive.

State of Origin in rugby league is seen as the game’s pinnacle, attracting hardcore fans and casual viewers. It is worth millions to the game each year.

One of the big drawbacks from a club point of view is injuries. It would just be a manner of luck. Sometimes playing football and sport in general injuries do occur. We cannot help it.

It just happens and this is something clubs need to come around to. Should we as a football community try to save our sport and promote it in a great way with the form of State of Origin or just allow the AFL Premiership Season to be our only spectacle.

Putting injuries aside, it would be a great event and something that the AFL along with the clubs should look into reviving.

The NRL is thriving with their State of Origin format, but the AFL is sitting on its hands.

Whether it happens each year of every couple of years, let’s grant the opportunity for these players to combine together for State of Origin Series.

What do you say, Roarers? Would you like a return of the AFL State of Origin series – and why? If not, why do you think the game should continue with its current approach?
