At the end of the third edition of the Women’s Big Bash, the Melbourne Stars missed the finals yet again, capping off a very disappointing year on both fronts, the BBL and the WBBL.

Come this season with new signings, the Melbourne Stars could make a return to the finals and possibly both teams contending for the Big Bash Championship.

Just recently, the Melbourne Stars announced that Brisbane Heat superstar Holly Ferling will move to the Melbourne Stars for WBBL04.

Ferling stormed onto the stage when she debuted for the Southern Stars during the 2013 ICC Women’s World Cup in India.

Ferling is a strike bowler who has incredible pace. Something that is yet to be shown from the Stars outfit. The Melbourne Stars fans should be and will be jumping with joy following this announcement of the signing today.

Having the Stars play a home game at Metricon Stadium could result in more Queensland players wanting to join the stars like Holly.

This is a major coup for the Stars with Gemma Triscari retiring from the Women’s Big Bash League. She has picked up 17 wickets in 25 games for the Heat proving to be a game breaker at times.

Following three seasons of disappointment, the women’s team is due for finals. They now don’t have Australian captain, Meg Lanning, to rely on meaning that other players including Katie Mack, Mignon Du Preez and Georgia Elwiss are all required to contribute to allow the stars to reach a competitive target.

This WBBL edition will be the final ran alongside the BBL. From 2019-20, the tournament will run standalone in the October-December slot.

This move will make the tournament accessible to more fans and truly allow the tournament to shine. This year will already have a standalone finals series ahead of next season.

The Melbourne Stars will improve across both the sides. The club has and will continue to gain new players and sign current talent. The stars have already signed Travis Dean, Nic Maddison, and Ferling.

The two international slots for the mens team is still to be revealed after Kevin Pietersen and Luke Wright left last season.

This coming cricket season is going to be huge. The Big Bash is going to be even bigger with the Melbourne Stars playing a pivotal role in that. Could the Stars become champions of both the BBL and WBBL? You’ll have to wait and see!
