There are three meetings set down for Tuesday, with some good depth across the board. Here are my five plays for the afternoon.

Bet 1: Each-way – Tamworth Race 1, number eight: Hey Dude
I’ve seen much worse double-figure shorts. This bloke is on debut for Mel O’Gorman and I think he can run a bold race at start one. He trialled last Wednesday at Tamworth and looked to move really nicely when a narrow second without being touched. That was a soft track, so any give here is no issue. He’s worth an each-way ticket.

Win odds: $15; place odds: $4.60 (Sportsbet)

Bet 2: Quaddie – Tamworth
For the first leg I’ve got four chances. I’m cheering for Melted Moments at near double figures. For the second leg I have horse five, with the big improver looking to be Epic Event. Under The Thumb should win race seven, and in the last race Sister Joy with the claim looks well placed, albeit in a tough race.

  • Race 5: 1, 2, 5, 10
  • Race 6: 1, 2, 4, 6, 8
  • Race 7: 3
  • Race 8: 1, 3, 6, 8

Stake: 62.5 per cent

Bet 2: Win – Mackay Race 4, number six: That’s Anna
This looks like one of the better bets at Mackay. Tom Button trains this mare, which was heavily backed when debuting at Rocky but just didn’t quite know how to knuckle down properly and didn’t turn it up when second to Fay Element in a maiden which has already produced two subsequent winners. If she can get cover from the draw, she’ll take some beating.

Win odds: $4.40 (Sportsbet)

Bet 4: Win – Moe Race 1, number four: Kaapow
This looks a good race for this runner. There was a confident market push for him at this track and distance last time, where he got back wide with cover but was pulling a fraction. He just took the sprint out of him, but he closed off well enough to run third to a handy Tolemac. Highweight grade maiden, he looks very well placed.

Win odds: $3.50 (Sportsbet)

Bet 5: Win – Moe Race 3, number seven: Secret Vega
He just needs luck from the inside gate. He was well backed when racing over 1000 metres here last start and he was unlucky to finish closer. He just got badly held up when appearing to be bolting and lost pretty much all momentum. Eventually he got clear and was sound late. Up to 1200 metres suits, he has gate one – he looks an ideal assignment.

Win odds: $2.80 (Sportsbet)
