Why Travis Head is the odd man out in Australia’s Twenty20 team

By mrrexdog / Roar Guru

The Australian cricket team will play three Twenty20s against Pakistan at the conclusion of the upcoming Test series.

The make-up of the top four should be captain Aaron Finch, D’Arcy Short, Chris Lynn and Glenn Maxwell.

The main issue with the structure of the team would be who should bat at five and six.

One option would be Travis Head, however his best results in white-ball cricket come when he bats in the top three.

The number five position should go to Ben McDermott. McDermott has an excellent Twenty20 record, averaging 34.60 with an outstanding strike rate of 145.78.

In the Big Bash last season Ashton Turner averaged 31.50 with a strike rate of 162.58. He also proves handy off-spin. He should bat at six, as well as being the team’s fifth bowler.

Wicketkeeper Alex Carey should bat at seven.

Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff are both making their return from injury, and if fit should play.

Given Andrew Tye and Fawad Ahmed have both enjoyed success at Twenty20 level recently, they should round out the XI.

Dan Christian and Billy Stanlake should go as the reserves.
