After a hiatus from the sport Conor McGregor will take on undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 this weekend.

The pre-fight press conferences sometimes bring out the best (and worst) lines from the fighters as they try to simultaneously answer the media and psychologically weaken their opponents.

At the final presser, held in Las Vegas this morning, both fighters revealed how they are preparing for the fight and their mentality going into it.

Khabib turned up on time and was happy to answer everything put to him including why McGregor wasn’t there.

“I don’t care that he is late, I have schedule,” he said.

Khabib wasn’t too fussed about missing what McGregor had to say.

“He can say what he wants, when a drunk guy talk no-one listens,” Khabib added.

After 15 minutes of answering questions, Khabib politely excused himself to continue with his weight-loss schedule.

Dana White fielded questions for another 10 minutes until McGregor arrived.

Looking like an Irish farmhand, complete with a white singlet and driver’s cap, McGregor took the stage like a rockstar.

Focusing fully on the fight, he was disappointed with Khabib leaving early but understood the reason.

“I want him to make weight … so get him in that sauna and cook him like the little chicken that he is,” McGregor said.

Always confident in his abilities, McGregor has no reservations about the result of the fight.

“I’m gonna knock that man’s nose right into the nosebleeds.”

Not content with just taunting his opponent, McGregor pulled Khabib’s manager into the beef with some unsavoury words.

“His manager is a f*****n snitch, terrorist, rat … I don’t even know how he’s in this f*****n country.”

If you thought there would be a chance of the fighters shaking hands at the end of Sunday’s bout and putting the past behind them, you thought wrong.

“Absolutely not,” Khabib said.

“F**k peace,” was McGregor’s response.

“There can never be any peace here. I always say aim for peace, but if you can’t aim for peace then aim between the eyes, and that’s where I’ll be aiming on Saturday”

With weigh-in happening tomorrow, McGregor had a few final words for Khabib.

“It’s closing in on fight time. You just cook yourself in that sauna you smelly Dagestani rat.”
