Queensland racing metro this Saturday heads to Doomben for a nine-race card while the Durbridge Stakes highlights racing at Morphettville. Here are my five plays across the two meetings.

Bet One – Each Way – Doomben Race Eight Number 10 Toga Picta
Gee he’s a solid each way play. This gelding had some really good form at his best as a three year old, running well in town, but his form tapered away towards the end. Now based with Murphy, and his trial win was outstanding. The wet track will not be an issue.

Bet Two – Win – Doomben Race Nine Number 11 Stella Victoria
If she ticks the wet track box, she should prove too good. This mare has really turned the corner since joining the Rob Heathcoate team, the latest win coming at this track and distance a fortnight ago where she looked a good thing on paper and won accordingly.

She takes on the boys and the wet track is the unknown, but on form, she is clearly the horse to beat. $2.40 looks overs.

Bet Three – Win – Morphettville Race One Number 2 Jawwaal
He should prove too good for them in the opener. On the quick back up after racing at Kyneton last Friday in what looked quite a deep maiden. He was four and five wide no cover throughout and really, to only be beaten in the last couple of strides by a nice type in Zoutori, his effort was huge.

If he produces anything similar to that, he’ll be winning here. Surprised he isn’t favourite.

Bet Four – Win – Morphettville Race Seven Number 12 Petrelle
If she handles the trip over, she should win. Yes she rises sharply in grade, but there was so much to like about her resumption at Bendigo. Sat on speed most of the way and she absolutely bolted in, running slick time, her final 600m in sub 34 and she was under a hold.

I’m very keen to see her at this level. On at $4 so hopefully the overs god is looking upon kindly.

Bet Five – Each Way – Morphettville Race Eight Number 15 Kissing Game
I think she’s a really good each way gamble. Former John Thompson trained mare who had her first run for Ryan Balfour at this track and distance three weeks ago and I thought she was one of the runs of the day, closing off against the bias behind Freehearted.

She has a very good second up record, so hopefully she comes on from that first run.
