There’s some strong racing across the board on Friday, with the feature meeting being at Cranbourne for Pinker Pinker night. Here are my five plays for the day.

Bet 1: Win – Cranbourne Race 1, number nine: Hasabro
This looks rather straightforward to my eye. Hasabro is a Stephen McKee-trained colt who is heading down the Derby path but would need to win this to warrant heading there. He was slapped in betting when making his Australian debut over 1755 metres at Geelong but had no luck at all in the straight when seemingly full of running. He just needs normal luck and he’ll win.

Bet: $100 win at $6 (Bet365)

Bet 2: Win – Cessnock Race 1, number 12: Ultimate Power
This looks like a lovely race for this gelding. Kris Lees trains him, and he’s had two career outings and has placed each start, starting on debut at Tuncurry before going to Port Macquarie, where he was quite good in defeat behind Shark Alley. Blinkers on, lovely draw and the wet track should be no issue for him.

Bet: $30 win at $4 (Sportsbet)

Bet 3: Win – Cessnock Race 8, number five: Time Raid
Nice type, this. He won with a touch of class and authority on debut at Tuncurry before going to Newcastle over 1500 metres, a clear class rise, but he handled it well, going down only late. I think getting back onto a wet track will help his cause and he’ll be out of trouble on speed, which is usually the spot to be at Cessnock.

Bet: $50 win (Tote)

Bet 4: Each-way – Grafton Race 5, number six: Just A Dame
This mare is flying for Todd Payne, but she can’t quite crack it for a win. I think she’ll get her chance here. She ran against the bias last time at Armidale and made up a stack of ground to run second behind Rock The World, who was heavily backed and got a soft time of it on speed. She just needs normal luck and I’m sure she’ll go close.

Bet: $20 win at $6; $30 place at $1.90 (Sportsbet)

Bet 5: Win – Townsville Race 2, number three: Forgive Me
The only negative is the seeming lack of tempo, otherwise he’s an odds-on chance. He’s flying for Leslie Gordy and comes back to 1400 metres after bolting up over the mile last time, proving strongest and running to the line and through it with purpose. He’ll be the strongest at the end, he just wants speed in front.

Bet: $30 win at $4.20 (BetEasy)
