The spring season of racing continues to pick up steam, with the Caulfield Cup set to take place on Saturday, October 20. Here is The Roar‘s guide to live streaming the race online and watching it on TV.
Held, as always, at the Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne, the 2018 edition of the cup is scheduled to begin at 4:40pm (AEDT) although, as it is the seventh race scheduled that day, could be delayed.
The Caulfield Cup is one of the last ballot exemption races for the Melbourne Cup, and typically caps off the Spring Carnival.
Not only are the trainers and jockeys vying for a spot in ‘the race that stops a nation’, they’re also competing for a purse of $5 million. The 2017 champion, Boom Time, is not competing this year.
You’ll have two options if you want to watch the race on TV.
Channel Seven will, as usual, be the free-to-air option to watch all of the big Group 1 horse races in Australia.
Their coverage of Saturday’s racing action will commence at 12pm (AEDT), and will continue right on until 5pm.
While they’ll be showing a variety of events throughout the day, you can be sure they’ll drop everything and flick straight over to the Caulfield once it begins.
Additionally, Sky Racing will have comprehensive racing coverage on all three of their channels (526, 527 and 528), beginning at 8am (AEDT).
Coverage of the Caulfield Cup itself will be on Sky Racing 1 (526) from 4:40pm, however.
If you want to watch Sky Racing’s coverage, you need a valid Foxtel TV subscription with the sports package.
There are a couple of options available to you if you’d prefer to stream the race instead.
You can catch Sky Racing’s coverage on either the Foxtel App (if you have an existing Foxtel TV subsciption), or Foxtel Now (if you want to stream Foxtel content as an independent service).
Both of those services require a subscription fee (in some way), however, so if you want to stream the race for free, you’ll need to use Channel Seven’s streaming application; 7plus.
It is not uncommon for betting websites and apps to offer live streams of horse races, although in most circumstances you will need to have placed a bet on the race to do so.
