There’s some very good racing across the board on Sunday, and hopefully there are a few winners to be found. Here are my five plays for the afternoon.

Bet 1: Win – Wyong Race 7, number seven: Invictum Domina
I think anything at $2-plus is overs. She should be putting this field away. Brad Widdup has this former Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig mare in career-best form at the moment, winning her past two. The previous start win was on the Kensington track at Randwick, where she proved too good for the group class mare Savacool. She should lead these for fun and prove too good.

Bet: $50 win at $2.15 (BetEasy)

Bet 2: Win – Nowra Race 2, number one: Elkano
I’ll take a chance on him returning to his best. He trialled well enough prior to resuming at this track and distance. On face value he was disappointing behind Golly I’m Lucky, but he was first up over 1400 metres and they did run a good time. He’s one from one on wet ground and I don’t think the depth here is anywhere near as strong. I’m hoping that run has brought him on.

Bet: $30 win at $4 (Neds)

Bet 3: each-way – Nowra Race 6, number six: Lucky Prospector
He’s the most interesting runner of the day. He was formerly with Robert Smerdon, then had a short stint with Henry Dwyer and is now under the care of Tash Burleigh. He was very hot and cold when he raced in Victoria, but there was no denying his talent when he wanted to display it. The stable is batting at 27 per cent with their first-up runners, so he’s a huge watch. The only negative would be if we got a seriously wet track.

Bet: $50 each-way – win at $16, place at $4.40 (Sportsbet)

Bet 4: Win – Sunshine Coast Race 8, number seven: Hang
I make him the best of the afternoon. Michael Nolan has got this horse going really well since being transferred from Ben Currie. He ran over the mile at Doomben last time on the bog where he was second up, lacking that hard fitness, but he fought on really well behind an in-form and hard fit animal in Zofonic Dancer. He’s very good on wet ground and is two from two when produced third up. Remaining at the mile the slight niggle, but he’s got class and quality.

Bet: $100 win at $4 (Bet365)

Bet 5: Win – Naracoorte Race 4, number one: Creance
Creance is a John Macmillan-trained galloper who has found a new lease on life at staying trips. He ran over 2000 metres at Strathalbyn last time, where I thought Stubby gave the horse every chance to win, but he couldn’t quite get past Sanima Star. He’s a hard fit and in-form horse, he just needs to put a win on the board now.

Bet: $20 win (Tote)
