The Cox Plate Carnival kicks off on Friday night at Moonee Valley with a strong eight race card, headlined by the Manikato Stakes (1200m).

There is also a horse I’m keen to see resume at Bathurst. Here are my five plays for the meeting.

Bet One – Each Way – Bathurst Race Seven Number 6 Lucky Prospector
One of the most interesting runners of the day. Formerly with Robert Smerdon, then had a short stint with Henry Dwyer and is now under the care of Tash Burleigh.

He was very hot and cold when he raced in Victoria but there was no denying his talent when he wanted to display it. Stable is batting at 27% with their first up runners so he’s a huge watch. Firm track a massive tick also.

Bet: $25 E/W (BetEasy)

Bet Two – Win – Moonee Valley Race Two Number 2 Pleasuring
Looks one of the hardest to beat but I will say he’s getting near D-Day. He ran on a bog at Kembla last time and tried really hard but Fortification packed too many and proved too good.

He’s better suited on firmer footing, hopefully, and he’s racing as if the 1400m will suit. Happy to be with him in a tricky affair.

Bet: $30 Win at $3.4 (BetEasy)

Bet Three – Win – Moonee Valley Race Three Number 1 Widgee Turf
Thought we’d get double figures for him so the $5.50 on offer now seems a tad skinny. Wade Slinkard trains this four year old, who attempted to lead all the way over 1300m at Orange last time out but for mine just went a fraction keen and couldn’t finish it off.

The blinkers are off so hopefully, he’ll relax for Winona and give cheek in front.

Bet: $30 Win (Tote)

Bet Four – Win – Moonee Valley Race Four Number 4 Waging War
I think the current price on offer is very good shopping. Wendy Kelly trains this promising mare, who resumed on Cranbourne Cup Day and was very good in defeat I thought behind a flyer in Sir Kalahad. I think up to 1400m suits, gate one and last time at 1400m she was two lengths off Fifty Stars.

That reads very well for this.

Bet: $30 Win (Tote)

Bet Five – Win – Moonee Valley Race Seven Number 2 Kementari
Very keen on this bloke back at Rocky. Ran at Mackay last Thursday and worked home very strongly late when a narrow second to Deputy Dan after getting well back in the run. Has a very good record here and the depth doesn’t appear overly strong.

Take the tote, because you’ll likely cop deductions via Miss Beneteau/That’s Anna.

Bet: $100 Win (Tote)

Total Spend: $240
