The first race after the Melbourne Cup has been taken out by Kaonic in the Furphy Plate.

Kaonic put the hammer down over the final 400 metres to hit the front and then hold off a fast-finishing Life Less Ordinary, while Testashadow was further back in third spot.

Tom Melbourne took the early lead ahead of Muraageb, setting a fast past pace early on in the race. Testashadow followed as the first three bolted away from the pack in a race which spread out quite early.

While Tom Melbourne looked like it was going to run away with a solid victory at one point, it got caught by Testashadow, who in turn couldn’t hold off the eventual top two with jockey Zac Purton timing the run well to the finish line.
