In one of the closest races of Melbourne Cup day, a photo finish had to be used to determine the winner of the MSS Security Sprint, which was run over 1200 metres.
In the end, Teleplay just edged out Moonlover and Holbien at the front of the field, coming home strongly to take the victory.
The race was run up the middle of the track, rather than over near the rail. It was a very bunched up start, with First Among Equals and Moonlover jostling for the early lead with the pace on from the get-go.
While Holbien appeared to be in a strong position through the final 500 metres of the race, he just couldn’t hold off the challengers, with Teleplay racing through to win the ninth race of the day with $150,000 on the line in the race.
Teleplay was a $19 outsider, while Moonlover was also at $8, meaning it was another race where the favourites failed to get up.
