After weeks of anticipation, the 2019 Melbourne Cup has been run, the results have been finalised and we now know which horses picked up a podium finish to come first, second or third.

It was a soggy old day in Victoria’s capital with rain making for a soft track and putting something of a dampener on the day’s festivities.

As soon as the rain came down Magic Circle (backed by its eccentric owner Dr Marwan Koukash) firmed into the bookies’ outright favourite, knocking Yucatan off his perch.

This shift was predicted by our resident racing expert Tristan Rayner who expected a wet day to be a massive advantage for Magic Circle who’s shown exceptional form on soft tracks.

In a predictably slow race it was Cross Counter storming home to take out first place, with Marmelo finishing second and A Prince of Arran rounding up the places.
