Of course the first thing you need to know is: when is it on?

The draft is split across two days for the first time ever this year.

On Thursday 22 October we’ll see the first round of the draft picked. The broadcast will begin at 6:30pm AEDT, while the actual draft itself is expected to begin around 7pm AEDT.

Then on Friday 23 October, the action will resume at 12pm noon AEDT – finishing off the remainder of the national draft, and then also going through the pre-season and rookie drafts.

The AFL expects the rookie draft will begin by 6pm AEDT, if not earlier.

If you want to watch the draft on your TV, then there’s only one option – you’ll need Foxtel.

The draft will be broadcast exclusively via Fox Footy. On Thursday the broadcast begins at 6:30pm AEDT, and on Friday it begins at 12 noon AEDT, however there will be a replay of the previous day’s action on Friday morning to lead into the remainder of the draft.

Live stream

If you want to live stream the draft then you’ve got two different options – you can either go via Foxtel, or via the AFL.

For Foxtel you would be looking to use either the Foxtel App or Foxtel Now.

If you’ve already got a Foxtel TV subscription and want to live stream the draft then use the Foxtel App – it should come free included in your subscription.

If you don’t have a Foxtel TV subscription already, then you should instead go for Foxtel Now. It’s a paid service where you pay a monthly fee to live stream Foxtel channels – though if you’re a new customer, you may be able to get a free trial.

If you’d rather go via the AFL, you’ll be looking to sign up for the AFL Live Pass. This allows you to stream AFL matches and other events, such as the draft, live via your mobile or tablet.

It should be noted that all of the options listed above will only let you stream the draft if you are located in Australia.

If you’re watching from outside Australia instead, you’ll need to live stream using Watch AFL. This only works for international viewers, so don’t try to use it in Australia.
