There are just three meetings set down for Tuesday, but I think there is good depth at the meeting at Port Macquarie. These are my five plays for the afternoon.

Bet 1: Each-way – Port Macquarie Race 1, No.1: Another Sonette
It’s a bit of a thin race on paper, so I’m happy to have something each way on this bloke for Mick Dwyer. He ran over 1400 metres at Newcastle last time in what looked a decent enough maiden, and he was far from disgraced when fourth to Saving. Up to 1500 metres from an inside gate, third up – I could make a case for him at the double figures.

Bet: $10 each-way at $12 to place, $3.60 to win (TAB)

Bet 2: Win – Port Macquarie Race 2, No.11: Miss Powerbelle
The odds are short, but she should be winning this one. She’s a well bred filly for Kris Lees making her debut off the back off just one trial for the prep, but it looked sharp over 800 metres at Gosford. This stable has a great strike rate with first starters, especially at these mid-north coast tracks, and Andrew Gibbons is having a career-best season to date.

Bet: $50 win at $2.30 (TAB)

Bet 3: Win – Port Macquarie Race 3, No.1: Casino Mondial
I wouldn’t be surprised if this bloke and Moana Marie switched places in the market. I think Casino Mondial should be favourite. He was near a month between runs when racing over the 1000 metres here a couple of weeks ago and just lacked that race fitness, but he was very sound late when second to Red Cupcake, who was given a great steer. Up to 1200 metres is a big tick and the concussion plates coming off tell me he’s sound feet-wise.

Bet: $40 win at $5 (TAB)

Bet 4: Win – Rockhampton Race 2, No.6: The Stockbroker
I originally liked Master Jamie from the 29 October trial, but after watching the trial again I think The Stockbroker could well be the better colt. These two trialled here at this track and Master Jamie won the trial, but he was under pressure on the straight. The other horse was under a good hold and Justin Stanley does remain on. That form reads very well, so he’s the one for me.

Bet: $120 win at $1.85 (BetEasy)

Bet 5: Win – Bendigo Race 1, No.3: Icon
This is effectively a two-horse race, and the gap between Icon and Bam’s On Fire is too great in the market. Yes, the latter has outstanding West Australian form, but he has to come over to the east and do it. Icon is trained by Team Corstens and seemed a bit new to the caper when having his first prep. He’s been given a good break. The blinkers are coming off and the recent jump out was very encouraging.

Bet: $20 win at $5.50 (BetEasy)
