NRL player Jarryd Hayne will plead not guilty to sexual assault charges at Burwood Local Court on Monday, according to his lawyer.

He arrived at Burwood Court with his mother and father, who is former rugby league player Manoa Thompson.

The 30-year-old, who is out of contract after playing for the Parramatta Eels during 2018, was charged with aggravated sexual assault and inflicting actual bodily harm late last month after handing himself into Ryde police station.

Hayne is appearing after claims made by a woman who alleges he caused injuries during a sexual encounter in the Hunter Valley during late September.

It’s understood the NRL integrity unit interviewed the woman before police became involved.

Hayne was granted a strict conditional bail after handing himself in following an investigation by New South Wales police.

The conditions of the bail included a $20,000 payment, handing over his passport, three reports to the Ryde police station every week and agreeing to stay away from both the alleged victim and the Newcastle local government area.

The matter has been scheduled to re-appear in court on February 13 in Newcastle.

His strict bail conditions will continue to be in place until at least the next court date, which it is understood Hayne will be excused from appearing at.
