Racing selections: Rosehill and Gold Coast tips for Saturday, January 16
After a bit of treading water last week (I was down 1.4 units on the day), we head to Rosehill this Saturday for a bit of a middling meeting.

Some really good racing has been assembled for Wednesday, highlighted by magic Millions Day at Wyong. Here are my five plays for the afternoon.
Bet 1: Each-way – Wyong Race 1, No.1: Lancaster Bomber
He’s really good odds in a competitive race to kick off the card. Forget his run at Hawkesbury last time – a barrier attendant had hold of the horse, which bungled the start badly and really should have made him a late scratching. He’s trialled up brilliantly since and should park off a hot speed. He looks the value in a tricky race.
Bet: $20 each-way at $6.50 to win, $2.80 to place (BetEasy)
Bet 2: Win – Wyong Race 4, No.4: Problem Solver
If Invincible Star runs a strong 1200 metres, she’ll win. If not, this mare is the value. On face value you’d say the run behind Demerara was plain, but keep in mind she was carrying a serious condition and would improve with the run. A distance of 1200 metres is no issue for her, and the run prior was a beauty. I’m more than happy to have something on at the odds.
Bet: $20 win at $7.00 (BetEasy)
Bet 3: Win – Sandown Race 2, No.9: Yulong September
Hhe’s on debut and a tricky gate, but he’s one of the better bets on the Sandown card. Darren Weir trains this colt, and I was really taken by his Ballarat jump out. He was off the pace and wasn’t asked for much early on, but when given a squeeze he responded and moved very nicely. This isn’t the strongest maiden going around, so he doesn’t have to be a star to win.
Bet: $50 win at $3.90 (BetEasy)
Bet 4: Parlay 3, 4 – Sandown Race 3, No.5; Race 4, No.6; Race 5, No.7l Race 6, No.3
I need three out of four to get a collect. Write Your Name should win Race 3 and is around the $1.60 to $1.70 mark. Zou York looks well placed in the fourth event and finds a thin race. Likewise wit Du Well in the fifth and the first-up win was arrogant. She looks a city class horse. Miss Norway resumes in Race 6 and looked sharp in a recent jump out. Claim for Michael Poy certainly helps.
Bet: $20 ($100 cost)
Bet 5: Win – Balaklava Race 5, No.1: Ethical Dilemna
I’m all over him and have made him the best of the day. He was good on debut behind subsequent MV winner Behemoth before going to the 1350 metres at Strathalbyn, where he didn’t appear to handle the tight track. Once he balanced up, however, he was really good late. On start three on a bigger track and up to 1400 metres – and I don’t think the depth here is strong – I’m really keen on his chances.
Bet: $100 win at $3.30 (Sportsbet)
