2019 preview for Aussie boxing

With the retirement of Anthony Mundine, the spotlight can now be shown on other fighters and 2019 will be a great opportunity for other boxers to shine and have the focus placed on them.

So here are some of the up comers and hopefully future world champions to look out for in 2019.

The Moloney twins
Jason and Andrew Moloney have made quite the new for themselves and are both highly ranked in their respective divisions. Jason who already has had a world title shot and just narrowly missed out on earning the IBF Bantamweight title, and in 2019 will no doubt get another title shot.

Maybe a rematch against Emmanuel Rodriguez could happen in 2019? Andrew is ranked ninth in the super-flyweight division and could eye of champion Jerwin Anacjas for his IBF title.

Zac Dunn
Dunn is the former IBO super-middleweight champion and has a fight scheduled for March 1 next year. Although he is not ranked in the top fifty if he continues his winning ways he could again be world champion. Rohan Murdock, who is ranked in the top ten for the WBO for the super-middleweight title, could get a shot at champ Gilberto Ramirez who just came off a successful defence of his title against Jesse Hart only this month.

Murdock could have a date with Ramriez next year.

Dennis Hogan
Jeff Horn’s sparring partner is now the number one contender for Jamie Munguia’s WBO super-welterweight title and it is only a matter of time before a deal is struck between the pair. Noting the Hogan is apart of Horn’s camp this fight will get all the attention it deserves come fight time. Hogan has worked his way up the ranks and is more than deserving of this title shot.

Blake Caparello
Former IBO light-heavyweight champ Caparello who has in the past had a shot at the big time, competing for the WBO title against Sergey Kovalev in 2014 has a fight against fellow Aussie Reegan Dessaix for his WBA Oceania Light-heavyweight title. A victory would put either man in the running for a world title shot against WBA champ Dimitry Bivol.

Bivol has already claimed an Aussie scalp with his first round defeat of Trent Broadhurst in November 2017. It would be great if either man could avenge the defeat of Broadhurst. Broadhurst himself will be looking to get his career back in line in 2019.

Jeff Horn
Obviously the biggest name in the sport at the moment, with all eyes on what he will do next. A move to the super-welterweight or middleweight division could be on the cards, considering that Horn is now ranked fifth in the middleweight division with his victory over Anthony Mundine. It will be very interesting to see his next move as 2019 needs to be another standout year for him similar to his 2017 victory over Manny Pacquiao.
