The fixtures for the upcoming Twenty20 world cup in 2020 have been confirmed, with the big news being the men’s and women’s tournaments will take place far apart from one another.
It will be the women who take to the field first, with their tournament beginning on Friday, February 21 and culminating with a standalone MCG grand final on Sunday, March 8 – International Women’s Day.
Australia’s women have been absolutely dominant in the shortest format of the game, taking home the trophy on four of the six occasions it’s been played. They defeated England by eight wickets in the final of most recent tournament in November.
The men, on the other hand, will have to wait until much later in the year – October 24, to be exact – to get their campaign underway, with the final taking place on November 15.
The T20 world trophy has so far eluded the men, with the format proving to be one version of cricket Australia’s men have struggled to really hit their stride in.
That said, this will be the first time Australia have hosted the tournament, making next year their best chance to break the duck.
Additionally, Australia’s current T20 ranking of fourth is their highest across all three formats.
