The Hurricanes have signed experienced South African lock Andries Ferreira to replace Sam Lousi for the remainder of the Super Rugby season.

Former Waratahs second-rower Lousi has been ruled of the campaign with a pectoral muscle injury suffered during the pre-season.

Ferreira, 28, has played previously for the Cheetahs and Lions in Super Rugby and also had a brief stint with French club Toulon.

Hurricanes coach John Plumtree said Ferreira is an invaluable addition after being forced to start young second-rowers Liam Mitchell and James Blackwell in each of the first three games.

Ferreira arrived in Wellington on Saturday and will be available for Friday’s home match against the Highlanders.
