Australia have no plans to follow India’s lead and rest key players from Sunday’s crunch ODI in Chandigarh.
The hosts have revealed former skipper MS Dhoni will play no further part in the five-match series.
Virat Kohli, keen to test a range of players out as India seek to finalise their 15-man World Cup squad, has forecast further changes.
The two squads travelled from Ranchi to Chandigarh on Saturday, which was their only day off between the third and fourth one-dayers.
Pat Cummins, who hasn’t had a break of substance since skipping the corresponding ODI series between the sides in January, will likely be forced to rest at some point this month.
But, with Australia in the hunt for their first ODI series win on foreign soil since September 2016, Cummins is fully expected to back up despite the short turnaround.
“No doubt Patty has put in a lot of work, so I think going forward we will definitely have to talk about it,” captain Aaron Finch said.
“But at 2-1 and the series on the line, I don’t think so.
“He’s been unbelievable with the ball. All through the summer – Tests, ODIs – it doesn’t matter, he has just been doing the business.”
Cummins has been arguably the most important player during the current tour, taking the new ball for the first time in over a year.
The visitors are likely to stick with an unchanged team.
“It’s about winning series, winning games, getting momentum, getting confidence in the group that we can win tight games,” Finch said.
“It’s been a while since we’ve won a one-day series, so it’s in no way a chance to take the foot off the gas because we’ve won one game.”
Australia haven’t won an ODI series since beating Pakistan 4-1 at home in January 2017, while they haven’t travelled to India and beaten the hosts in an ODI series since October 2009.
Sunday’s game starts at 7pm AEDT.
