A new season of AFL is upon us, with 18 teams set to fight it out for the ultimate prize in the game. This is The Roar’s ultimate guide to streaming every game of the season online, or watching them on TV.

The first match is scheduled for Thursday, March 21 between the Carlton Blues and Richmond Tigers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with the first bounce set down for 7:40pm (AEDT).

With the exception of split rounds in the middle of the season to give each team a bye, there will be nine games per weekend, and luckily for you, there are ways to watch and stream every single one of them.

How to watch the 2019 AFL season on TV

The AFL’s broadcast rights are a little complicated, but they bring about a best-case scenario for fans around the country.

The first fact which must be mentioned is every game of the season will be on Fox Sports, through Fox Footy, which can be found on Channel 504. When two games are on at the same time, one of them will overflow onto one of the other Fox Sports channels.

For this information, you will need to check your local guides, or simply head over to the Foxtel TV guide.

To watch the coverage on Foxtel, you will need to have access to a valid Foxtel TV subscription, complet with the sports package.

A number of games, including all of the finals series, will be available on free to air TV through the Seven Network.

Some games will be on Channel 7, and others on 7Mate, depending on the time and nature of the game. Again, you’ll need to check your local guides.

Each week, Channel 7 will broadcast all games on Thursday or Friday night nationally, as well as one on Saturday and Sunday, with those generally being one of the 7:25pm (AEDT) games on Saturday, and the 3:20pm (AEDT) game on Sunday.

Each state has their own TV schedule however, meaning all local clubs will be viewable on free to air TV within a given state. For example, all Sydney Swans and Greater Western Sydney Giants games will be available on Seven in New South Wales, while the Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power games will be available in South Australia.

Where those teams play on either a Saturday or Sunday outside of the nationally televised slots, it may mean Seven alter their coverage of the other games within that state.

Otherwise, you’ll want to tune into one of Foxtel’s dedicated streaming applications, being either the Foxtel App, or Foxtel Now.

The other way to watch the AFL this season will be to use the AFL live pass, which will set you back a yearly subscription fee of $99, but has every single match available.
