Is relocation really the answer?

I get it with the endless topic of the game being expanded.

To some people, it’s a tiring topic and to others, it’s still very interesting. I for one love to keep a note on this with not just my opinion but more so a lot of others. We all see things differently, but now let’s get into this topic more shall we?

Many are wondering just who to relocate from NSW. There are only three teams from NSW who shouldn’t be under threat of relocation. Easts, Souths and Newcastle.

Easts and Souths are the only two original teams from 1908 still in the competition. Souths were gone once but they are back after Russell Crowe helped them with their finances. Simply put, removing either or both these teams is like Black Sabbath without Tony Iommi, Deep Purple without Ian Paice and Genesis without Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford.

All I mentioned from said bands are the only original members who never left. They were the glue. Another reason why Souths and Easts have to remain is the competition will fall apart without them. See the comparison?

Newcastle have to stay for two reasons. One, they’re the only NSW team not in the Sydney/Western Sydney region and two, had they chosen Super League over ARL, the NRL wouldn’t exist.

That’s right, I said it and I don’t give a shit!

Other teams that should stay are Parramatta, Manly, Penrith, Cronulla and Canterbury. All of them have a decent population for games so why not? Wests Tigers should split back into their original teams and St George Illawarra Dragons should stick.

Sadly, these teams are all under relocation threat. We can merge some of them like the Parramatta Panthers.

I have made my points clear before for where to expand to and all common sense says go for it. Look at Perth, the Western Australia population is just shy of 2.6 million people, with two million in Perth. Some may say I am out of my mind, which is correct, but that’s a killer population to fill out a stadium when their NRL team plays.

When it comes down to relocation, it’s perhaps a totally stupid idea. Imagine being a Cronulla Sharks fan from the 80s then suddenly, they’re the Adelaide Sharks. There goes 200,000 people.

Sure that may not be much in a country with 22 million people, but it’s going to piss off a lot of people. If there are too many Sydney teams, at least merge some.
