Racing this Saturday comes to us from Mornington where the Mornington Cup is the highlight on the card along with a few other listed races.

As per usual I will be giving you my thoughts on the quaddie and the races involved in the quaddie, let’s get stuck into it!

First Leg – Keno Fun Money Handicap BM90 2000m
5 Steel Prince, defied a betting drift to record a tough first up victory at Sandown, is fitter here and should show some further improvement. He just doesn’t know how to run a bad race!

6 Thunder Cloud, resumed with a nice run at Flemington he then went to Flemington again second up beating some smart horses on that occasion, no match for the quinella last week but it was a high rating race, looks the winner!

7 Prince Ziggy, is as honest as they come and that shows with the horse finishing no further back than third this preparation just too strong in the Stony Creek Cup, chance to get two in a row here.

Suggestions: 5-6-7

Horse racing generic 1

There’s plenty of good racing to be had this weekend.

Second Leg – Ladbrokes Mornington Cup Listed 2400m
1 Trap for Fools, winner sailed by fresh but he was coming again late, held off all bar Avilius at Caulfield, fought hard in his most recent start behind Harlem in the Australian Cup. Has a big weight but is a class galloper and should be right in the finish.

2 Ventura Storm, kept finding the line fresh when raced near the inside lanes which was much slower so he was at a disadvantage on that occasion, has won at this distance and beat Trap For Fools in record time Moonee Valley Cup. Gets the winkers off first time and blinkers on again.

5 Stars Of Carrum, was very good against the pattern second up forget the Group 1 miss in the Australian Guineas. Has been racing well without much luck, does have the talent and gets to 2400 metres here which suits.

7 Sin to Win, found the mile too short when resuming at Flemington, squeezed out last time out in the Wangaratta Cup and should have won! Looking for this distance now and can run a good race.

8 High Bridge, was pretty poor first up on a wet track, trialled after that race and went okay. A firmer surface here might suit him and watch him run an improved race.

10 Hang Man, huge return win at Caulfield over 1400 metres and has run well since then, has a bit of talent and won well at Flemington last start defeating Thunder Cloud and Valac.

Third Leg – Ladbrokes Hareeba Stakes Listed 1200m
3 Bons Away, had post race issues at Flemington so genuine excuses that day, was very good in the Oakleigh Plate prior to that, expect improvement here.

5 Ashlor, what an honest animal we have here, had a great fight to beat Widgee Turf at Wangaratta, that horse then came out and won last week, has a great record at 1200 metres.

8 Glenall, held ground back in the field in the Lightning Stakes, in the wrong spot in the wrong race at Flemington last start but went okay!

9 Streets of Avalon, racing in fine form as of late and is a very consistent galloper, good behind a good one two back at Flemington, then just no match for Widgee Turf last week, back to 1200 metres here.

10 Manolo Blahniq, beat a good field off a wide run when hardly suited at the weight scale then was badly blocked last start and was a good thing beaten that day. Comes off a five week freshen up and a quiet trial at Cranbourne.

17 Bel Sonic, if he gets a run here we will be including him. Far from disgraced in worst part of the track in Group 1 Oakleigh Plate, if the track is playing well for swoopers he can win!

Last Leg – Steller Guineas 3Y-SWP 1600m
Just going with the one horse to finish off, that horse being number one Mr Quickie, resumed with a top win in a mostly on pace race, nailing the smart Age of Chivarly, his last 600-metre figures were exceptional.

He has only had the eight starts for six wins and one second so is lightly raced and open to a lot of improvement, very consistent galloper.
