After nailing the quaddie last week I will be looking to back it up this Saturday with day two of The Championships coming to us from Randwick – and what a days racing we have in front of us!

So many quality horses on the program but everyone’s attention will be focused on the wonder mare Winx as she has her final race start in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, let’s hope she goes out a winner.

As per usual I will be running through my thoughts and selections for the quaddie, let’s get stuck into it!

First Leg – Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes 2000m Group 1
Well what a way to kick off the quaddie hey! At five past three Saturday afternoon I think all eyes around Australia will be glued to the TV or glued to watching the wonder mare herself at the track, it’s going to be a sad day’s racing to see the great mare retire – but she’s done it all and I expect it to be no different here.

Looking to make it 33 straight wins and going out on the highest of highs, go Winx you good thing!

Suggestion: 7. Need I say anymore? Just sit back and enjoy the ride!

Second Leg – Schweppes Sydney Cup 3200m Group 1
Well now here is where the races get tougher with a good edition of the Sydney Cup!

4 Red Cardinal came back flying this preparation with two wins before failing behind Avilius last start who was just too good for them that day and won comfortably. Has won over this distance in the past and has won on wet tracks, should run well!

5 Big Duke has been so close to a win this preparation but just can’t breakthrough he has finished second on three occasions so he is banging the door down, has placed at this distance in the past and has a good record on wet tracks!

8 Yogi gets out to a distance where he has one start for one win, love seeing him out to this distance as I think it suits his racing style, won well first up at Caulfield then hasn’t been too far behind them in some much stronger races, has a good record on wet tracks.

10 Dubhe is a four year old gelding and he is an import from the Charlie Appleby and Godolphin operation, who is coming off a 60-five day break leading into this. He won his last start over this distance and did so in fine style winning by four lengths.

This stable has a very good record when bringing horses like this over so it’s very important you keep an eye on this horse, has won on wet tracks also.

11 Midterm has come back in fine style this preparation finishing third at Caulfield they then took him over to Sydney where he won the Group Three Manion Cup defeating Big Duke who was second on that occasion.

Midterm is untried at this distance but has won on a wet track.

12 Glory Days is a Kiwi horse who is coming off a Group 1 victory over this distance last start in New Zealand, been up for awhile in this preparation but she’s fit and ready to go and handles wet ground.

14 Gallic Chieftain returned to his best last start beating Shraaoh in the Chairman’s quality Group Two, maybe that could be the spark back that he needed, a nice light weight and Glen Boss on board he is a definite chance.

16 Shraaoh has been pretty consistent his last three runs finishing in the placings behind couple of handy horses, hasn’t been at the distance and handles wet ground okay.

Third Leg – Coolmore Legacy Stakes 1600m Group 1
1 Alizee backs up this week after disappointing run last week in the Doncaster, we know she is capable of much more than that, expecting her to bounce back to her best here and be in the finish.

4 Dixie Blossoms was good last week in the Doncaster behind Brutal, she finished sixth on that occasion but was only beaten 3.6 lengths, the start before that she was a good winner against her own sex in a Group 1 race, just such an honest horse.

16 Amphitrite is a quality filly from the Hayes yard, she’s fourth up here and should be ready to go after some more recent runs in tougher company, back to her own sex here could work in her favour. Hasn’t been to this track but I suspect she would have been given a look around once or twice, has one start for one win on the soft.

17 Fundamentalist gets her chance again here after finishing down the track last week in the Doncaster behind Brutal, before that she had been running consistently and running in the placings behind some very good horses, gets through wet ground okay and gets her chance to bounce back here!

18 Nakeeta Jane has been very consistent this preparation and has defeated some handy horses as well as run good races behind them when she has placed, will love the distance, although she had one start on the heavy for a fourth behind Verry Elleegant who is a short favourite for the Oaks she has never been on a soft track but I don’t think it matters!

Last Leg – TAB Sapphire Stakes 1200m Group 2
1 Invincibella is first up here coming off a 91 day spell, she is a winner first up and has a pretty handy first-up record, has had a quiet trial in preparation for this and gets through the wet ground.

3 I Am Excited is third up here and has won third up in the past so should be fit and ready to go now, has been solid this preparation without being outstanding the only query is the wet ground but has won on a soft track.

5 Spright has been very consistent this preparation and has a few Group 1 placings this preparation already, comes down in grade here which will suit her, just a big query on wet ground.

6 Winter Bride is second up here and has won second up in the past, first up she won at Randwick defeating Spright who is a handy mare in her own right, has a good record on wet tracks so will get through it pretty comfortably.

9 Ellicazoom is a query at this track and on the wet ground but her last start third behind Sunlight in the Group 1 William Reid was enough for me to include her here.

10 Resin is third up here and ready to go, coming off two placings at her first two runs back behind Winter Bride and the Kiwi horse Avantage, has a very good record on wet tracks and can run well here!
