When St Kilda defeated Melbourne this past Saturday, something happened which hadn’t been seen since 2010: the Saints found themselves on top of the AFL ladder.
Alan Richardson’s men have been arguably the surprise of what has been one of the most unpredictable AFL seasons so far in recent memory – Richardson himself was at short odds with the bookies to be the first coach to face the sack this year when the season started.
But with St Kilda sitting pretty at 4-1, we put the question to Roar AFL Expert Cam Rose on the latest episode of the Game of Codes podcast: just how high is the Saints’ ceiling this year?
There are plenty of factors in St Kilda’s favour – not least how flaky many of the supposedly strong teams are this season, a couple of new assistant coaches who are clearly having an impact, and star recruit Dan Hannebery still to come back to the side – but are they enough to see the side reach the finals?
