Blues Origin predicted team: Maguire set to overhaul squad in search of winning combination
New coach Michael Maguire is considering as many as 50 players for the State of Origin series opener with not even captain James Tedesco…
The New South Wales Blues are in the unfamiliar position of coming into a State of Origin series as defending champions, but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be any changes to the Brad Fittler’s side when he names it next month.
The make-up of the NSW Origin team was up for discussion on the latest episode of the Game of Codes podcast, with Roar rugby league Expert AJ Mithen arguing the Blues need a new halves pairing if they’re to make it two series in a row.
Have a listen to the discussion in the player below as we tackle who those halves should be, as well as what player Fittler should turn to to replace winger Tom Trbojevic, who will almost certainly miss Game 1 through injury. There are a couple of other potential backline changes on the agenda, as well as some musings about who should comprise the forward pack.
Be sure to check out the latest episode of Game of Codes to see exactly what all those changes should be for the Blues. And fear not, Queensland fans, we’ll be covering off who Kevin Walters should pick in his Maroons team in the near future!
