I love The Roar and love talking footy, but every Thursday night once the teams are announced, there is not a consisted place you can go and talk about those changes.

So here I am, with my first Weekly Teams article. Each week I will try to put something together to discuss the ins and outs of the round to come.

This round we have some huge ins and one particularly huge out.

Sydney vs Essendon
Sydney we have made the one change, with Harry Cunningham out due to an abductor injury. Cunningham has been a consistent member of the Swans side this year, averaging 22 touches – most importantly running at 81 per cent efficiency.

Irishman Colin O’Riordan takes his place in the team. While the NEAFL is clearly a standard below AFL, O’Riordan has been dominating at NEAFL level, leading Champion Data ranking after Round 5 by a whopping 141 points. He gets his opportunity after some real strong form.

Essendon have made four changes with Mark Baguley, Jordan Ridley, Kyle Langford and Joe Daniher going out. In their place, Orazio Fantasia, David Meyers, Brayden Ham and Zac Clarke return.

Carlton vs Collingwood
Carlton gets an injection with the return of three important players in Matthew Kreuzer, Will Setterfield and Mitch McGovern that should really help see an improved performance.

Out is Liam Jones, who was involved in horrific head clash last week, while Lochie O’Brien and Andrew Phillips are omitted.

Two forced changes for Collingwood due to injury; out goes Taylor Adams (adductor) and Dayne Beams (Hip).

In their places, Rupert Wills and Chris Mayne return from injury. Mayne, particularly, will be a welcome return as was in very good form before his unfortunate injury in his milestone match.

Western Bulldogs vs Brisbane
Just the one change for the Doggies. They welcome back Matthew Suckling and his trust left boot from injury. Small forward Tory Dickson is the one to make way.

Couple of changes for the Lions, with one slightly surprising omission for me.

Vice-captain Harris Andrews returns from hamstring injury, having missed the last couple of weeks. The Lions also see the return of hard running back flanker Zac Bailey.

Going out of the side is Lewis Taylor and Josh Walker. Have to say Josh Walker is extremely unlucky with the form he started the season. One has to wonder if this purely a match-up decision.

Gold Coast vs Melbourne
After a couple of down weeks, the Suns are looking for a bit of spark, which has prompted them to make four changes. The experienced Pearce Hanley returns from injury and he’s joined by Lachie Weller, Sean Lemmens and young gun Jack Lukosius as the other inclusions.

Out goes injured duo Brayden Fiorini and Aarong Youg, while Jesse Joyce and George Horlin-Smith are omitted.

Just the one change for Melbourne, with inspirational captain Jack Viney returning from injury. Alex Neal-Bullen is the one to make way.

St Kilda vs West Coast
The Saints made three changes from their last round loss to GWS. Luke Dunstan, veteran defender Nathan Brown and Ed Phillips force their way back into the seniors after time in the VFL.

Darragh Joyce, Jonathon Marsh and young Hunter Clark are all omitted after last round’s loss.

Just the one change, with veteran Chris Masten left out for the travel. In Masten’s place is young forward Jake Waterman, who gets his second chance after his only other opportunity in the opening round loss to the Lions.

Port Adelaide vs Adelaide
A raft of changes for the Power, with a mini-injury crisis engulfing them. A couple of big outs in Ollie Wines (leg) and veteran Brad Ebert (concussion), while Riley Bonner and Zak Butters are omissions.

The good news story of the selection round is the return of Matthew Broadbent after an extended injury lay-off. Steve Motlop, who has spent the last three weeks in SANFL, Kane Farrell and Aidyn Johnson are the other inclusions.

Luke Brown replaces the injured Bryce Gibbs, who has not come up from back injury in Adelaide’s only change.

North Melbourne vs Geelong
Luke Davies-Uniacke, Sam Durdin and possible debutants Curtis Taylor and Kyron Hayden are in North’s extended squad. At this stage, no changes have been determined.

Joel Selwood and Zach Tuohy lead Geelong’s inclusions. They are joined in the extended squad by Darcy Fort, James Parsons and Charlie Constable. At this stage, Zach Guthrie is the only confirmed omission.

Hawthorn vs GWS Giants
The dropping of previous club captain and premiership player Jarryd Roughead has dominated the selection discussions. Roughead will turn out for Box Hill on the weekend after having struggled at AFL level so far this year. Chad Wingard also goes out of the team to injury.

The inclusions in the Hawthorn squad include James Frawley, Jack Scrimshaw, James Cousins, Conor Glass, Jonathon Ceglar and Harry Morrison.

Aidan Corr and Shane Mumford go out due to injury, while Jackson Hately is omitted for GWS.

Additions for the Giants include the return of captain Phil Davis, ruckman Dawson Simpson, star on-baller Josh Kelly, Zac Langdon, Matthew Flynn, Harry Perryman and Lachlan Keeffe.

Fremantle vs Richmond
Fremantle have included Brett Bewley in their extended squad for what could be his AFL Debut. brennan Cox, Sean Darcy and Taylin Duman join him. At this stage, there are no confirmed omissions.

Nick Vlastuin and Daniel Rioli are confirmed outs for Richmond due to injury.

David Astbury, Ryan Garthwaite, Jake Aarts, Dan Butler, Ivan Soldo and Rielly Collier-Dawkins are added to the extended squad.

Both Aarts and Collier-Dawkins potential AFL debutants.

So there you have it, all the changes for Round 8. Who is from your team is unlucky? Whose are you going to miss the most? What impacts do these changes have on your teams?
