The middle three games of Round 11 all involve a top eight side playing a team ranked somewhere between 3 and 14 places below them.

On paper – it should be a tipster’s dream, especially as two of the teams are playing at home and the other game is on a neutral ground.

I believe all three games are capable of turning in an upset and possibly reviving the faint hopes of Melbourne and Sydney and making the maths for Hawthorn a lot simpler.

At the end of the day however I think that the top sides will have weathered the storm and maintained their top eight position.

Geelong will be one game closer to their first loss of the season but will be looking to face the Tigers next week with an unblemished record. They will be too professional and well coached to slip up at home, even with the Swans impressive record at the cattery.

Harry Taylor is gradually climbing his way into the very elite group of game players at Geelong and this week will join former captain and champion rover Billy Goggin in 17th position on the Cat’s all time Top 100 game players.

Mitch Duncan will match Wayne Closter who served in Vietnam at the same time as me and thus was denied the opportunity to play 200 club games.

For Sydney, let’s hope that Dane Rampe avoids controversy when he steps on the field equally the games tally of Steve Hoffman who finished one game short of his 150 games milestone at the Swans.

Brisbane will have to again show a sceptical public how much they have improved by convincingly beating the unpredictable Hawks at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Nick Robertson will equal the much injured Matt Maquire, who was thrown a lifeline by Brisbane in 2010 after being delisted by the Saints and Tom Cutler will match Andrew Raines.

Sharpshooter Luke Breust will join former captain and coach Bert Mills on 196 games. Mills, a ruckman from Bethanga in 1930 won the club’s best and fairest three times. Liam Shiels – who has played only two games less than Breust will join 1980’s half back flanker Ray Jenke in 37th place on the Hawks all time Top 100 game players list.

The match in Darwin may be Melbourne’s chance to start their season with a win over Adelaide.

The Demon record breaker Nathan Jones will join Wayne Schwass as the third greatest wearer of the number two jumper in the AFL, and Tom McDonald will match Colin Sylvia’s game statistics, but Adelaide should have plenty of incentive to not let this game slip.

For Adelaide, Rory Atkins (one of the three Rory’s in the team) will equal Kris Massie’s performance after he joined the Crows after 4 years at Carlton. Massie was the youngest player on the ground in the 1999 grand final between Carlton and North Melbourne.

Wayne Milera – who only broke into Adelaide’s Top 100 game players earlier this year – will play his 50th game, the same number that Brett Chalmers played for the club in the 1990’s.
