Play was briefly suspended at the US Women’s Open in South Carolina and with footage like this emerging, it’s not hard to see why.

The Country Club of Charleston course was cleared late on day two and for good reason, as a short time later a tree near the 11th and 18th holes was struck by bolts of lightning.

Vision captured by broadcasters showed the damage the tree had sustained, with the footage causing a stir on social media.

Meanwhile, it was 23-year-old Jeongeun Lee who would emerge as the victor in the final round, finishing at six-under-par, two shots ahead of Lexi Thompson and Ryu So-yeon.

It is Lee’s first LGPA title victory.
