The Black Caps were seen as something of a dark horse heading into this year’s Cricket World Cup – but have they played themselves into contender status?

Yes, it was against a hapless Sri Lankan side, but it’s not every day you see a team win an ODI by ten wickets in just 16 overs.

Was that crushing win a sign of the Lions’ weakness? Or are New Zealand in the same echelon as England and India?

We covered that and more on the Game of Codes podcast with Roar cricket expert David Schout.

Listen to the discussion:

New Zealand’s blistering start to the World Cup was just one of the topics we covered. We also touched on Australia’s opening match; have they worked themselves into true contender status as well?

We also put a fork through South Africa’s chances, while also discussing the benefits to cricket of Bangladesh’s surprise Proteas win.

Don’t forget, The Roar is also running a Cricket World Cup tipping comp with $2k up for grabs in prize money. It’s not too late to enter!
