The bye rounds are upon us in the AFL, which means we’re – frighteningly – already halfway through year.

That means it’s time to take stock and assess pre-season predictions. Who’s outperformed their summer forecast? Who’s surprised us in all the wrong ways?

This year’s underachievers are, unfortunately, quite easy to pick out. Melbourne’s fall from grace has been downright gobsmacking, while the Bombers haven’t been able to turn back-to-back trade period premierships into a climb up the ladder.

As far as overachievers go, there are some obvious candidates too.

Geelong have defied all expectations they’d slide down the ladder to emerge as runaway premiership favourites, Collingwood have rubbished suggestions their back half of 2018 was a flash in the pan, while Brisbane have enjoyed an incredible turnaround after years of misery.

But is there a surprise packet we’re overlooking?

Roar AFL expert Marnie Cohen joined us on the Game of Codes podcast to put all the movers and shakers under the spotlight.
