The Blues are staring down the barrel of a huge opportunity lost after their rough loss to Queensland in Game 1 of State of Origin last Wednesday night.

The fingers got pointed at a supposedly ineffective halves pairing for New South Wales, with Nathan Cleary struggling to make an impact and Cody Walker getting hooked early in the second half.

As far as representative players go, his name is almost on par with Voldemort’s for Blues fans, but is it time for Brad Fittler to give Mitchell Pearce one more chance?

Headlines were made earlier this week when it was revealed Andrew Johns gave the current Knights halfback a call to tell him he believed he could save the series for his side.

Is this the right call?

The Game of Codes podcast covered this topic with Roar rugby league expert Mary Konstantopoulos. Is Pearce the man? Or has he had his chance?

Listen to the debate:

Game 2 of Origin takes place next Sunday night at Perth’s Optus Stadium. If New South Wales get up, then Game 3 (in Sydney) will be the decider. If the Maroons prevail, it’s their 12th series win from the last 14.
