By the time the World Cup is out, Australia will have spent more than 24 hours on a bus travelling up to 2200km between the cities of England.

And that doesn’t even include the daily trips to and from training.

Such is the geographical nature of England, Australia have ditched the planes they’d use at home and hit the road for each of their trips.

Already their team coach has driven 1200km between cities since their warm-up games finished in Southampton, with the most taxing period almost over.

Australia have played four games in nine days, dating back to last Thursday, with the team set to take the three-hour trip to Nottingham via the M1 on Sunday morning after their clash with Sri Lanka.

“Some of our boys no doubt will be after a bit of a rest and recharge of the batteries,” Australia’s captain Aaron Finch said.

“Because that can wear you down travelling a lot; travel, try and play all the time.

“I think it’s good, though, that when you’re in that phase of the tournament, you’re just playing all the time.

“We’re in cricket mode.”

Australia’s schedule will at least slow down next week.

They have a five-day turnaround into the game against Bangladesh at Trent Bridge, before back-to-back matches against England and New Zealand in London allowing for a nine-day stay.

There is also the potential for a 10-day stint in Manchester if they finish first or fourth, with the semi-final played there three days after their final-round match against South Africa.

Alternatively, they could have head down the road to Birmingham if they finish second or third.

If the Aussies do go all the way to the final they will travel a total 2203km between towns, with an expected time of 28 hours on the road before the tournament ends at Lord’s.
