The idea of golden point was introduced based on the idea of avoiding draws.

Golden point gives both teams a chance to score either a try, penalty goal or field goal in order to win the game and claim two points.

I like the concept but with many wanting to see it gone, I think some changes should be made. I have got a few options.

Pryde: The Blues’ squad for Origin Game 2

1. Save it for finals and State of Origin footy
During the regular season while we don’t like draws, there’s no reason why we can’t have them. For finals matches, there must be winner – and the same goes for State of Origin. For regular season matches, the teams share a point apiece.

2. Drop it altogether
I have a better chance to see Tupac still alive than to see them go back to how it was. This isn’t going to solve anything and will be a backwards step.

It’s pretty much a slap into the face of why the idea was brought in the very first place. Why? So we can decide a winner.

3. Golden try
Let’s go for this one, it’s my preferred pick of the three but I’ll accept whichever happens.

Instead of the drop kick contest we now have, golden try can lead to more unpredictable footy in which each team is in desperation to score that decisive try to win the game.

Some teams will manipulate the idea and get penalised on their own goal-line. Looks like we got ourselves a problem – but let us remember that every problem has a solution.

If you choose to slow down the play the ball or purposely choose to be offside, that’s ten in the bin for you.

Considering the period will only be ten minutes, your team will be outnumbered for the duration of the game. This is a huge advantage to the opposition.

Which of these three ideas do you like Roarers? If none of them, what else is there that comes to mind?
