Australia could have a national second-tier soccer competition by 2021-22 if recommendations from an FFA white paper are followed.
A white paper has recommended the establishment of a national second division below the A-League by 2021-22.
The paper, released on Thursday by the FFA, recommends the second-tier competition commences in two years to provide additional pathways for Australian footballers.
Under the proposal, relegation from and promotion to the A-League wouldn’t start until at least the fifth year of the competition’s establishment.
