What is our game coming to? Now we are being monitored by security guards, who are patrolling in an extremely intimidating fashion.
It seems that the absolute minority of morons want to go over the top when demonstrating their passion for the game and someone pushed the panic button.
It’s another example of political correctness gone mad. Let’s stop for a moment and look at the facts.
There are nine games each week, with between 200,000 and 300,000 people of all ages attending – many of whom will voice their passions and opinions in what has been accepted as a vital part of our great game.
Let’s say that one, two or three idiots will take their passion a little too far. That works out to be about 0.001 per cent of the weekly attendees causing a problem, yet that 0.001 per cent has resulted in the remaining 99.999 per cent of us being unnecessarily intimidated by a bunch of brightly coloured ego seekers with ‘security’ printed on their clothes.
Now we have these ego seekers running onto the field to do the job of our highly trained umpires. Really?
This is AFL football, where for many many years people have cheered and booed, ranted and raved, and yelled until their voice boxes collapsed. What is wrong with that?
If there are people who don’t like that level of passion then simply stay home and watch the sterile version of footy on TV.
As for that 0.001 per cent of morons and idiots? Kick them out and let the rest of us enjoy the game.
